Every year, the Malone Revitalization Foundation puts on our event. Part of the reason that the Hendrickson Hatch Fishing Tournament is put on by this organization is to continue the legacy of the Salmon River in Malone as a hidden gem of fly fishing in not just New York, but in the entirety of the states! Each year we put a few thousand dollars worth of fish back into the river. This helps not just the ecosystem of the Salmon River, but also ensures that the tourism and hobby of fly fishing stays alive as well. If you've never seen them stocking, it's very exciting. In one site on River Road, the crazy fish just sat there for days, perhaps waiting to be fed! You could sit in Adirondack chairs and watch them mill around for days as it's quite shallow in some places. Eventually they move on down/up the river. The fish stocking is educational and artistic all at once. This year the fish have already been ordered and are set to make their way to Malone sooner rather than later. Check back for more information! EDIT on 4/13/2017:
The fish that Malone Revitalization Foundation is purchasing for the Salmon River will be tentatively stocked on Tuesday, May 30. We will be stocking fish in various parts of the river, away from brdies, from Ballard Mill dam and downstream. The fish will be in the 12-18" range!
