2016 Hendrickson Hatch results
After taking a year off, 2016 marked a return of the Hendrickson Hatch fly fishing tournament. This year's tournament had 50 participants. Below are results of the top ten finishers based on total inches of fish measured. Only fish over 12 inches can be recorded. The 10th annual Hendrickson Hatch fly fishing tournament was held the weekend of May 31 and June 1, 2014. This year’s event had 54 participants – 48 adults and 6 children between 8 and 12 years old. River conditions and weather were great for this year’s tournament. There was a tie for the largest fish landed in this year’s tournament. Bar Aiken and David Brookman each landed and released a 19.5 inch brown trout. Below is a list of the top ten participants in this year’s tournament. This year 52 anglers participated in the two day tournament. The largest fish landed was an 18 inch brown caught by Jan Wojick of Potsdam, New York. The weather was great this year, but the river was a little high and pretty warm. The warm water seemed to keep the larger fish from feeding. This year’s event had 59 participants – 50 adults and 9 children between 8 and 14 years old. River conditions were great for this year’s tournament. There was a three-way tie for the largest fish landed in this year’s tournament. Stan Cerlanek, Robert Stout, and Nick Myatt all landed and released an 18 inch brown trout. This year’s event had 42 participants – 39 adults and three 9 years olds in the 12 and under category. Conditions were great for this year’s tournament. After a period of very wet weather in May, the rains stopped and water levels were ideal for the weekend. The weather cooperated as well with temperatures in the low 70s, clear skies, and light wind. Anglers reported good fishing. The largest fish caught and released was 19.5 inches by Dave Brookman of Wilmington, New York. Below is a list of the top ten participants in this year’s tournament. The largest fish landed and released in this year’s event was 21 inches, caught by Philip Short. Participants in this year’s event traveled from areas throughout New York State as well as neighboring locations in Vermont, and Quebec, Canada. During the weekend of May 30th and 31st the Malone Revitalization Foundation hosted the fifth annual Hendrickson Hatch Fly Fishing Tournament. The conditions were very good for this year’s event. The river levels were great for fly fishing and air temperatures were in the low 60s with partly cloudy skies. The largest fish landed and released in this year’s event was 19 inches, caught by Jarred Spinner. Participants in this year’s event traveled from areas throughout New York State as well as neighboring locations in Quebec, Canada. The largest fish landed and released in this year’s event was 20 inches, caught by Robert Stout. There were many fish stories of larger fish that got away in the high water. RESULTS 2007 During the weekend of May 19th and 20th the Malone Revitalization Foundation hosted the third annual Hendrickson Hatch Fly Fishing Tournament. The weather was spectacular for the entire weekend and, even though the fishing was a little slow, anglers commented and what a great time they were having fishing the Salmon River. There were 42 participants in this year’s event, traveling from areas including Albany, Syracuse, Boston, and many northern New York towns including Watertown, Potsdam, Massena, Malone, St. Regis Falls, and Chateaugay. RESULTS 2006 2006 has been a difficult year for fly-fishing in the northeastern United States. Heavy rains have caused many rivers to become very high and dangerous. These conditions required that the 2006 Hendrickson Hatch Fly Fishing Tournament be postponed from May 20&21 to June 3&4. The original event saw over 50 participants show up for registration. All were understanding of the circumstance and supportive of the decision to postpone. In the end we had 26 anglers register on June 3&4. Participants came from many areas including Albany, Syracuse, Burlington, VT and many northern New York towns including Potsdam, Massena, Colton, Malone, St. Regis Falls, and Chateaugay. The river fished well, especially Saturday, and every participant received an award or door prize.
